Apple Music to Add Visible “Made With AI” Labels Later This Year

  • Music News, Platform & AI Labeling Signals

Apple has provided additional details on its previously announced AI transparency requirements for Apple Music, confirming that AI-generated content will soon carry visible labels for users.

In an email sent to creators, Apple stated that later this year it will make AI Transparency Tags visible to Apple Music listeners in the form of “Made With AI Labels.” Content providers will be required to include the tags in any instance where AI was used to create a material portion of the content, including tracks that are AI platform-generated. Apple defines AI-platform-generated content as anything that is primarily derived from a generative AI service. The requirement covers new artwork, tracks, compositions, and music videos added to the platform.

Apple said its goal is to provide listeners with as much transparency as possible and directed creators to its Music Style Guide for further information. The company first announced the metadata tagging requirement in March.

The move comes as streaming platforms address the growing volume of AI-generated music. According to Apple Music lead Oliver Schusser, more than a third of the music uploaded to Apple Music each month is fully AI-generated, though it accounts for less than 0.5% of listening on the service.

This labeling system represents Apple Music’s effort to give users clear visibility into the use of generative AI in music and related content while establishing disclosure rules for creators and distributors. The visible “Made With AI” tags will mark a shift from backend metadata requirements to consumer-facing transparency later this year.
